Waccamaw Rehabilitation Center, the area’s only acute inpatient rehabilitation facility, is located on the third and fourth floors of Waccamaw Community Hospital. Waccamaw Rehabilitation Center is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and one of six CARF-accredited facilities in South Carolina, one of three CARF-accredited stroke rehab facilities in the state, and the first CARF-accredited facility in South Carolina with both stroke and amputee specialties. This facility provides acute rehabilitation services in an inpatient setting for patients who have been discharged from the hospital, but could benefit from additional physical, occupational, or speech therapy. Individuals who might be eligible for admission to Waccamaw Rehabilitation Center include patients recovering from a stroke, major joint replacement, limb amputation or complex orthopedic procedures.
There are 43 inpatient rehabilitation beds. Rooms feature beds that convert to recliners for easy patient movement, private bathrooms and transitional areas that assist rehabilitation patients in their move from hospital to home. The floor also features spacious family waiting areas located on the end of each wing.
Additional therapy is provided in the fully-equipped therapy area, which also includes an adaptive kitchen designed to help reacquaint patients with activities of daily living. Patients not only receive traditional rehabilitation in the form of occupational, speech, or physical therapy, but also learn how to modify their environment to help improve quality of life and help them more fully return to function after an injury or illness.

Members of the treatment team include physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, recreation therapists, audiologist, Medical Director/physician, rehabilitation nursing staff, case managers, neuro psychologist, dieticians, respiratory therapists, rehab technicians and orthotic/prosthetic specialists. Family involvement is encouraged and welcomed, as well.
Waccamaw Rehabilitation Center patients are required to cooperate/participate in a minimum of three hours of therapy, Monday through Friday and half days on Saturday. Patient Meals are served in the rehabilitation center private dining room. For information or referral, call 843.652.1415.
