Waccamaw Community Hospital, the newest hospital to join the Georgetown Hospital Family, opened in Murrells Inlet in November 2002. Waccamaw Community Hospital, an 167-bed facility, accommodates the needs of the population in the fast-growing northern section of the organization's current service area. The four-story building incorporates nearly 236,000 square feet of interior space. Twenty-four hour emergency services, obstetrics, inpatient and outpatient surgery, and medical/surgical units are available at the hospital. Critical Care Unit features the latest technology with patient/family convenience and comfort. A step-down pediatrics unit is also offered.
The facility provides imaging services with the latest comprehensive capabilities in radiology, ultrasound, X-ray, PET/CT, MRI, nuclear medicine and breast wire localization. Cardiopulmonary care services include EKG monitoring, vascular lab services, angioplasty expertise and respiratory therapy. The onsite lab provides hematology, chemistry, microbiology, histology, cytology, pathology and blood bank services.
A new Surgery Pavilion opened its doors to patients in Spring 2013. The 24,000-square-foot facility includes eight operating rooms, 14 recovery beds, 12 outpatient beds and two endoscopy rooms.
Waccamaw Rehabilitation Center, a 43-bed acute care rehabilitation facility, is located within Waccamaw Community Hospital. This acute inpatient rehab care center is designed to serve as an interim step for patients who have been discharged from an inpatient facility. Rehabilitation therapy services, including physical, occupational and speech therapy, are available to acute rehab inpatients.
Waccamaw Community Hospital offers the areas only specially trained Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Program consisting of a highly trained nursing team who assists in collecting DNA evidence in the Emergency Room. The SANE team helps to improve the community's response to sexual assault victims.
Other important services provided at Waccamaw Community Hospital include Food and Nutrition Services ranging from dietary consultation to "At Your Request" room service dining; health information management services for handling birth certificates and records requests; and health education classes, support groups, clinics and other related events.
