Georgetown Hospital System provides outpatient women’s diagnostic imaging services in two convenient locations within Georgetown County. Georgetown Memorial Hospital in Georgetown and Waccamaw Community Hospital in Murrells Inlet offer both outpatient and inpatient services.
Georgetown Memorial Hospital in Georgetown features a designated women's service area that is equipped with the latest and accredited imaging modalities. Digital mammography, breast ultrasound, stereotactic breast biopsy and DexaScan services are offered. In addition, mobile PET/CT imaging capabilities are available which offer the latest cancer detection technology.
Georgetown Hospital System operates an Imaging Center at the south end of Waccamaw Medical Park - East in Murrells Inlet which is across from Waccamaw Community Hospital. The dedicated outpatient facility houses various imaging modalities, including the very latest MRI technology that marries higher resolution images with a non-claustrophobic experience for the patient. 16-slice CT, digital radiography, sonography, and digital mammography are also offered.
The Breast Health Center, located within the Imaging Center, offers a variety of imaging capabilities designed for routine breast screening and diagnostic purposes, including MRI Breast Coil technology that provides technologists with breast specific MRI capabilities, and stereotactic breast biopsy services. A new digital storage and retrieval system plays a part, by allowing comparison to past mammograms. Digital mammography was first available locally to women in Georgetown and Horry Counties at Georgetown Hospital System’s Imaging Center at Waccamaw Medical Park - East. In addition, women have access to a complete educational resource center within the facility. The Breast Health Center is accredited in mammography.
When breast cancer is the diagnosis, we continue to help, coordinating with the Breast Cancer Tumor Board, the Francis B. Ford Cancer Treatment Center, specialized surgeons, oncologists, therapists and others throughout the Georgetown Hospital Family. The Breast Cancer Tumor Board is a multidisciplinary team of doctors and other cancer-fighting experts who discuss and evaluate the special circumstances of each patient. A course of treatment most likely to produce results is determined for each individual patient.
In addition, our Breast Health Navigator offers personalized support to breast cancer patients. This specially trained nurse is available to answer patients' questions and address their concerns throughout their cancer treatment and care. Our Breast Health Navigator provides educational resources to help patients in understanding their disease and offers other sources of support available through the hospital and the community.
